Heard this bird’s haunting, marvelous song for the first time.

July 9, 1997: Potato Creek State Park, St. Joseph County, IN
I spotted this bird in the woods, and a few minutes later heard its beautiful song. I heard a few others in different parts of the woods, as well.
July 15, 1997: Warren Dunes State Park, Berrien County, MI
Never spotted this bird, but heard a few of them in the woods. I love this haunting song.
May 3, 1998: Deer Run Court, Johnston County, NC
Spotted this quiet bird wandering about in front of the house. At first I thought it must be a juvenile of some sort because the feathers on the head and face looked sort of weird, but it was just puffed up temporarily. Almost no spotting on the breast made the ID, although I wish I could have heard this one sing!
May 9, 1998: William B. Umstead State Park, Wake County, NC
Spotted a pair of these birds in the woods. Unfortunately, they refused to sing for us!
