As Kevin and I were walking through a dry, scrubby area, we heard a family of quail in the brush. Kevin walked closer and flushed them out of their hiding place. What a racket! I’d never heard anything like the sound they were making. I hadn’t seen them for more than an instant, so we continued on, looking carefully. We spotted a few of them. One in particular was bopping about on the trunk of a fallen tree. Gorgeous birds!

These are wonderful birds! So adorable; one of my favorites in the western states! I came across several large groups while hiking, probably at least two or three dozen birds total.

Spotted a small family near the parking lot.

A couple of quail were on the ground near the feeder at the San Pedro House. Unfortunately, Kevin missed them, but I got a good look as they scrambled away.

I was hoping to take some good pictures of these birds, but wasn’t really happy with the way the photos came out. I did have some great bird sightings, though, including a flock of at least 30 birds making a ruckus behind the Sorenson house.
