Protonotaria citrea
May 24, 1998: Alligator River National Wildlife Reserve, Dare County, NC
We stopped at Alligator River WR specifically to see this bird, and it was one of the first we spotted! Absolutely beautiful, and we had a wonderful look at two individuals. One was singing right alongside the path, and allowed us to view him for a couple of minutes before darting off. A large warbler, and the yellow on the head and breast is so BRIGHT! Really very pretty, and I noticed the grey on the back as one flew away.

This little bird tricked me at first – before I saw it, I thought it was something else based on the song (unfortunately, I don’t remember what now). But once I got a look at the bird, I was back on track. A pretty bird, and one I have not seen often. A treat.
Let me know what you think!
