I just caught a glimpse of these birds flying past the car, as we drove from the park to the train station. Need to get a better look!
April 15, 2005: Rottnest Island, Western Australia
Western (Eolophus roseicapilla roseicapilla) Found a small flock foraging near the oystercatcher. What gorgeous birds! There are feral birds of the Eastern subspecies in the greater Perth area, and I’m not sure about the identification for all the birds I saw, but the grey eye-ring on some of the Rottnest Island birds are indicative of E.r. roseicapilla.
April 20, 2005: Kangaroo Island, South Australia
Eastern (Eolophus roseicapilla albiceps) Didn’t see a whole lot of these, but did see a few small flocks flying by on various parts of the island. These were my first sightings of the albiceps subspecies, although I saw several more during our Murray River boat trip.
