Cacatua sanguinea
April 18, 2005: Subiaco Park, Subiaco, Western Australia
Spotted from the window of H & D’s home, on our last morning in town. I was happy to see these birds, having missed a flock of some sort of black-cockatoo only a few minutes earlier. The photos aren’t great, and I originally called them Western based on the size of the bill, but in retrospect (and trusting iNaturalist), I think they’re actually Little. Either way, YAY! I love cockatoos.
April 20, 2005: Kangaroo Island, South Australia
Spotted a large flock of white birds from the bus. I assumed they were Silver Gulls, but decided to take a photo anyway. I was thrilled to have a closer look at the photo and discover that they were cockatoos! They obviously weren’t Sulphur-crested, and this is the only other species of white cockatoo on the island. So, YAY! Hope to get a closer look at some of these birds while we’re on the boat trip.a
April 23, 2005: Murray River, Paringa, South Australia
(Cacatua sanguinea gymnopis) Saw a large flock of these birds in trees in the river where we picked up the boat. Finally got some better photos than the one I took at Kangaroo Island, although I’d like to see them still closer.
April 24, 2005: Murray River, Paringa, South Australia
Have seen several of these, mostly in small numbers, but a couple of larger flocks.
