One of my students found this teeny tiny California slender salamander – the smallest I’ve ever seen. Super interesting as it brought home the point that this is a species with direct development – not a larval stage. So tiny and adorable, we named this little friend Alyx.
April 1, 2022: Fairfield Osborn Preserve
I found one of these little cuties underneath a fallen branch (which I’d picked up to look at some Trametes). Down near the creek.
April 25, 2022: SSU Copeland Creek
A couple of these were found in what’s become our usual spot – underneath some logs behind the Art Building. Super cute.
